Our Wedding Day: Putting On The Dress

Once I finished my hair and makeup, it was time to head over to my bridal suite and change into my dress.  My wedding coordinator, Lee, picked up my Mom, sister-in-law and me and dropped us off at the main mansion, where my suite was located.
When I got to the suite, my bridesmaids were all dressed and they looked fabulous.

They also decided to pump up the music and get the party started icon smile Our Wedding Day: Putting On The Dress

Next came probably one of the scariest moments of the day, getting my dress on.
While most brides were probably itching to get their dress on, I was petrified that it wouldn’t fit.  My alterations woman had quite a hard time getting the dress to fit perfectly.  There were a few stubborn pieces of lining that kept wrinkling around my stomach, of all places.  It was such a fiasco to fix that it took 5 fittings and my dress wasn’t ready until a week before my wedding.
Needless to say, I was pretty traumatized by the whole ordeal and I was convinced that when I put it on I was going to hate it.  But I dove right in anyway.
My bridesmaids took the dress down from our convenient chandelier hanger holder.

Then our photographer strategically placed me in front of her, making extra sure that she didn’t get a free show (not to mention the fact that my father was in the background).

After some wiggling, the dress was finally on my shoulders.

Then came, the moment of truth, time to zip it up.

And tie the bow in the back.

Then my fabulous shoes.  Seriously, when else do people get on their knees to help you put your shoes on?  I felt like such a brat.

And then it was time to do a lot of pulling and tugging.

It seriously took four people to properly put my chest into place.

Then we had to get all the bottom layers to lie properly.

But all those last minute tugs and pulls really made the dress come to life.  And, most importantly of all, I wasn’t scared of my dress anymore.  It actually looked really amazing, if I do say so myself.  Now all I needed was my flowers.

Dream Dress ?!?

Her face is too funny not to post

This weekend Mr. A got THE. PHONE. CALL.  That’s right, after 6 long months, my dress is finally here.  I really never thought this day would come…it’s been quite a roller coaster.

You see when I ordered my dress back in July, I was told that it would be here in October.  So the first day of October, I called P. Lawrence…at 8am.  I know I’m a stalker.  I was told that some rush orders had taken precedence over my order, since my wedding was over 7 months away.  Okay, I kind of understand that but I was still super disappointed.

Fast forward to the next month, I call November 1 only to hear the same story. It makes me wonder what’s even the point to ordering your dress early if every “rush” order takes over…aren’t we rewarding/reinforcing bad behavior and punishing the go getters?

This pattern repeated itself for months until I finally called in the big guns, well his guns aren’t so big but his mouth is icon smile Dream Dress ?!?   Mr. A worked his sweet southern charm and finally got the salon to agree to bring in the dress by December.

While it took them a month to fulfill their original promise (it is January after all), my dress is finally here. What a relief!  I seriously thought this back and forth was going to go on for.ev.er…Sandlot style.

Now that my dress is here I find myself hovering between excitement and fear.  I’m so elated but I’m also oddly nervous.  Trust me, I love the dress.  It’s a beautiful, classic design that will be just as jaw dropping today as it will be 50 years from now.  But this weird little part of me (my devil if you will) is waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Crazy huh?  I mean I picked the dress of my dreams, there’s nothing to be scared of.  So I’m just going to tell that little devil voice to shove it.  My dress is totally me and I can’t wait for Mr. A to see it.

Anyone else get nervous about their dress?
