Our Wedding Day: Gift Table and Guestbook Fingerprint Tree
Directly past our place card table were two antique tables that Antrim usually uses as a gift table and guestbook table, respectively.
It was nice not to have to worry about another tablecloth or bringing in another table and it didn’t hurt that the antique tables fit in perfectly with our decor.
To the left of the place card table, we decided to set up the gift table.
Really it was nothing more than an empty birdcage and two calligraphed signs. I got the birdcage from Craigslist (surprise surprise) for like $20. It was given to me in its natural wood state, which I, of course, hated and immediately painted white. The signs were made from the same frames, paper and calligrapher as the table numbers. I know it’s hard to tell but one sign said “Merci” and the other said “Gifts.” Greatest part about this project? I sold the birdcage and the signs so the total cost to me was nothing.
To the right of the gift table was our guestbook.
We opted again for something untraditional (the ever popular fingerprint guestbook tree) because honestly I just wanted something else to hang up in our apartment. The tree was drawn by Etsy seller Blue De Toi for $75.
I got the frame and frame holder at Michael’s (don’t you love the cheesiness of the frame holder).
One of my favorite details about the tree is that the artist carved our initials in a heart in the middle of a tree. Seriously, how cute?
Our photographer even caught a few people in action.
I was a little afraid that people wouldn’t get it or know what to do but judging by the number of fingerprints we got I think people liked it.
We made sure to make our signage especially clear for this one so no one would get confused. We placed a sign on the left that said “Guestbook.” On the right, we placed a sign that said “Please leaf us your fingerprint and signature.” Dorky, I know.
Somehow, even with the adorable signage, my Dad seemed to “forget” to place his fingerprint on the tree (which should be no surprise to those who know him). But don’t worry, next time he’s over here it’s on. I still have the green stamp pads waiting for him.
Ahh! We did a similar thing where ppl were supposed to sign inside a leaf already printed on a poster – only they just started putting their signature everywhere. Also – my 6 year old cousin (with an attitude) wrote "Cheryl, you were so pretty, but of course, not as pretty as me."
Ah what a gem.
That's a really creative idea for your "guestbook". We had a completely traditional guestbook. I didn't get too creative with the wedding. We just wanted it as simple as possible and I just didn't think to jazz anything up with creative ideas… lol.
I can't wait to see your DIY photo booth! You have got me very curious!

Modern wife that sounds like a cool idea I would love to see some pics. That's way too funny about your cousin.
Lisha, I'm sure yours was beautiful too. I'm a firm believer in whatever works for the couple.
oh this is too cute- what a great idea!
Thanks Simple Life!
We've loved reading all your planning ideas, and now it's great so see them all in pictures. You had an amazing wedding.
Thanks uberbrides. How sweet of you! So glad you enjoyed it!
Sweet score on the birdcage! I can't sell anything from the wedding. I'm such a pack-rat. I really like the idea of using the wedding details as decor in your home. I'm trying to do the same thing but it's really just an excuse not to get rid of anything. LOL! It's nice memories though.
Haha k about being a pack rat. I'm the total opposite so I don't have that problem.
