After gaining our declaration of support from our guests, it was time for the most anticipated moment of the day (well, after the first look of course), our vows.
Mr. A and I decide to do handwritten, secret vows. Since I have an obsession with all things calligraphy, I asked our calligrapher to write our vows on silver 5 X 7 cardstock. This way we had something pretty to hold in our hands (instead of some crumbled pieces of paper) and we also had a little memento for after the ceremony.
The unforeseen bonus was that our photographers also took some pictures of our vows, capturing the most important passages.
After the wedding was over, we decided to frame our vows and put them on our nightstands. Every morning, I wake up next to the words that Mr. A wrote and it’s so invigorating. Reading those words never get old.
While writing my vows took a really long time (it’s hard to find the right words to say for something that is that big), I’m glad that we pushed through and it did. I’ve never uttered truer words in my life.
“Mr. Adams, please turn to Ms. Adams and share the vows you have written.
I, Mr. Adams, in faith, honesty and love, take you, Ms. Adams, to be my wedded wife, to share with you God’s plan for our lives together united in Christ.
With God’s help, to strengthen and guide me I will be a strong spiritual companion for you in our life.
I vow to always love you, protect you, and be faithful.
I will walk beside you and be your foundation through all joys and despair, through blessings and fears, upheaval and tranquility until death do us part.
I gladly lay down my life for yours just as Christ did for us.
I vow to be your husband, your confidant, and your best friend.
I give you all that I have, myself and my love.
All these things I pledge to you in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ms. Adams, please turn to Mr. Adams and share the vows you have written.
My dearest Mr. Adams,
You are the only one I have ever truly loved.
To have you by my side for the rest of our lives will always be my life’s greatest blessing.
My heart beats for you completely. Your love is more than I will ever deserve and I cannot remember how I could have ever lived without you.
You are my best friend, my confidante, but more importantly my one and only love.
I promise to strive to be the woman that you inspire me to be because you are better than any man I ever could have dreamed up.
I promise to love you no matter what God brings our way, good or bad.
I promise to make your dreams, our dreams, making our joys and sorrows completely intertwined.
I only hope that I can spend the rest of my life proving that to you how deeply my soul loves you.
I love you with my whole heart, always and forever, promise.”
