Once my bridesmaids were finished with hair and makeup, they headed up to my bridal suite to get changed. Our photographers requested (smartly I might add) that the girls should be dressed and ready to go so that when I was putting on my dress they would be all prettified. Seems like a no brainer but when you are mapping out your day-of-timing it’s totally something that could slip your mind. This is why I love our photographers.
This meant that while I was getting my hair and makeup done I was pretty much left alone, with the occasional visit from my mom and sister-in-law. As scary as that might sound, it was actually really relaxing and centering. I’m a very quiet person and I enjoy reflective moments. Having my hair and makeup done without the madness of the bridal party allowed me to really focus on the magnitude of what was going on. I have very vivid memories of breathing really deeply to myself and whispering “we are getting married today.”
I started first with hair and figured it would be a good time to read the letter Mr. A wrote me. It made me smile and reminded me of the 10,000 reasons why I couldn’t wait to be his wife.
My hair was modeled after the Carrie Underwood picture above. I wanted something vintage but still modern. Kelley, my hairstylist, decided to coin this style modtage. I like it
Amie, my makeup artist, soon joined in and I was being doubled teamed from all sides.
I did not have any really specific directions for Amie. I’m not afraid of makeup, I love fake eyelashes, and I trust makeup artists. So I just let her do her thing. It helped that when Mr. A saw me after my hair and makeup trial, he immediately teared up. I think that means it hit the spot, right?
I know there are lots of people who don’t want to embrace fake eyelashes but they seriously make your eyes pop. I promise they aren’t heavy. And if they are done right, you won’t even feel them. I would definitely recommend using a strip though. I’ve had individual eyelashes done before and those suckers hurt to take out. Since they are placed individually (you know, hence the name), you have to remove them individually, which obviously magnifies the pain like tenfold. Strips, on the other hand, come off in one fell swoop. And they make pictures like the one below possible.
I spent the next hour or so just laughing and joking with everyone around and really soaking up the moment. It was so nice to feel pampered and taken care of.
Then it was time for hair and makeup to put on the final touches. A little lip gloss and a lot of hairspray.
And with the last squirt of hairspray, I was ready to become a bride. Well, you know minus that whole getting the dress on part.
